About Warren Brown     |     About Babette Brown

Our dancing life incorporates a large variety of activities; we are dancers, competitors who represent their country, demonstrators, dance instructors, competitive coaches, lecturers and adjudicators. For us, and we think for every dancer, it is important to bring their art and their skill also to the general public. Ballroom dancing has so much to offer, it is so much more than just learning some steps. We sometimes get asked if it is "boring" for us to teach beginners - what a question! If you are a good teacher you can identify yourself with your pupils, you have to have an idea of how they would feel trying something for the first time. Sometimes it is more challenging to actually teach a beginner than to work with a top competitive couple. A top competitor will understand you in a different way and their control of the body is already developed. If you work with beginners you have to carefully choose step by step how you will build up the body together with teaching the basic patterns.

Professional Ballroom Dancers Warren & Babette Brown The most important thing is the enjoyment of dancing. As frustrating as it can sometimes be when you want to develop a skill, in the end, Ballroom Dancing is a story about a man and a woman dancing together and that should never be forgotten.

Our philosophy is that there are three main aspects of Ballroom Dancing:

ARTS, SPORTS and SHOW. There are many opinions whether it is one or the other - we believe you have to find a good balance between all three of them in order to get to the top. But we also think that the aspect of sports, like in other forms of dance is just simply a necessity in order to create your form of art. In order to be free to perform, your body has to work for you like an instrument a well trained body means less limitations for your arts.

The aspect of show we find closely related to the arts but we define it as an outside tool that can be very effective if used right. It means to use an effect which can be many things like the costume, a trick figure etc. in order to enhance your performance.

The purest aspect of all of them and the one that fascinates both of us most is the arts. For us, art lies within oneself. The challenge is to get an understanding of the purpose and the meaning of each individual dance and to achieve a personal interpretation within the technical quality. We find that this aspect is a lifelong challenge. It is not only physical but also personal because you have to find out a lot about yourself and your character. The idea is not to look like but to be and to create. We see Ballroom Dancing as a form of art. Out of our own experience we know that you can only perform your art on a top level if you have trained your body and the technique, which gives you all the tools to create your dancing.
